Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for ResNet?

Once you've moved into your residence hall room you'll be able to register for ResNet.   Simply plug your computer into the ResNet jack and open a web browser - you'll see the first page of the ResNet Registration process. Once you've finished you'll need to restart your computer and you'll have a ResNet connection!

Can I use a wireless connection in my residence hall room?

Wireless ISUNET is not available for use in the residence hall rooms.  According to the University's Wireless Radio Frequency Airspace Policy, students may not install a personal wireless access point within the residence halls.

Policy aside, there are many reasons for disallowing wireless access in the residence halls.  Using a wired connection, such as ResNet, allows each person a dedicated connection rather than sharing a wireless signal with floormates.  This increases transfer speeds and decreases connectivity issues and interruptions.

Will I be billed again if I register a ResNet port in a lounge or another room?

No.  Once you've registered the ResNet port in your room you will be able to use any other ResNet port on campus.  In order to do this you will have to register on the new port, then re-register once you get back to your room.

I moved rooms.  How can I get my ResNet connection changed?

Unless you moved to or from Central Campus [Dunn-Barton or Walker], all you'll need to do is register on the port in your new room.  You won't be billed again.  If you moved to or from Central Campus please e-mail ResNet or call us at (309)438-8334.

How can I cancel my ResNet subscription and get a refund?

If you'd like to cancel your ResNet subscription, please e-mail ResNet or call us at (309)438-8334.  Pro-rated refunds will be given based on the date we receive the request, so please take care of this in a timely manner.

How can I connect my game system or multiple computers to ResNet?

Hubs, routers, and switches are not to be used on any ResNet jack.  That being said, anyone wanting to connect more than one device to a ResNet port can unplug the primary device, wait one minute, then plug the second device in to the port.  Alternatively, you may wish to share your Internet connection by using Internet Connection Sharing.

Will Voice Over IP [VoIP] work on ResNet?
