Availability

ResNet is available in all the residence halls at Illinois State University. These include:

  • Central Campus (Dunn-Barton, and Walker Halls)
  • East Campus (Manchester Hall, Hewett Hall closed for remodeling 2007-2008)
  • South Campus (Atkin-Colby and Hamilton-Whitten Halls)
  • Watterson Towers (Jefferson, Smith, Randolph, Monroe, Pickering, Adams, Marshall, Clay, Madison, and Van Buren Houses)
  • West Campus (Haynie, Wilkins, and Wright Halls)

ResNet Requirements

To sign up for ResNet, you must have a computer with an Ethernet card (most new computers have one) and a Category 5 Ethernet cable. If your computer does not have an Ethernet card, you may purchase one and install it yourself or contact the RCC for your residence hall to arrange for installation. In order to have the RCC install the hardware into your computer, please have the Ethernet card and Category 5 Ethernet cable purchased and ready before contacting the RCC. All items required to connect to ResNet can be ordered at TechZone.

During the ResNet registration process you will be required to download and install McAfee VirusScan Enterprise or McAfee Virex. The cost of McAfee is included in the cost of ResNet. This installation will require that you remove any other anti-virus product before attempting to proceed. If the McAfee installation is not completed you will not be allowed to access anything but the ResNet Registration Form. Should you have problems during this process, please contact the University Computer Help Desk at 438-HELP (309-438-4357).

Additionally, if you would like to connect to ResNet in Dunn-Barton or Walker Halls, you must pick up a ResNet Connection Kit. If you wish to obtain the kit, you may contact us. This kit will be loaned to students free of charge for the duration of the school year.  The ResNet Connection Kit is for use only with ResNet at Illinois State University and must be returned to the ResNet office at the end of the academic year, when the student moves to a different room or residence hall, or when the student leaves campus for permanently. If these kits are damaged or are not returned, a sufficient amount will be charged to the student's account to cover the cost of kit replacement.

Fees & Billing

The ResNet service will cost $20 per summer month and $68 for each semester of the 2007-2008 academic year. After completing and submitting the Residence Hall Network Registration Form your student account will be billed the appropriate amount. Remember, ResNet will give refunds on a very limited basis, so please contact us if you move out of the residence halls, withdraw from the University, or stop using your service for one reason or another.
